Author's Day

Several authors of books appropriate for Primrose students visit the school and are available to talk with students and sign books. Volunteers are needed the day of the event to escort authors through building, distribute signed books, and generally help out.

The Book Fair is held twice a year – Fall and Spring. The Fall Fair is one of the PTA’s top three fund raisers. The Spring ˝ Price Fair is a thank you to the community, and the PTA does not make any profits. Volunteers are needed mostly during the day to act as cashiers, stock and straighten shelves; deliver books; and help students make book selections, find books, and add prices.

Boxtops for Education

Boxtops for Education are collected from students and redeemed for cash from the company. The coordinator promotes collection through flyers and contests. Boxtops for Education may be found on commonly purchased products like those made by General Mills.
 
PTA Council Delegate

As a member of the Somers district PTA Council, the Primrose PTA is represented at monthly council meetings by the president and one council delegate.  The council delegate speaks and votes on behalf of all Primrose PTA members at council meetings, carrying Primrose PTA concerns to the council, reporting on council activities at PTA meetings, and writing brief council reports for the PTA newsletter.

This committee arranges and implements a variety of cultural arts programs and assemblies to enrich the education of our children. Volunteers are needed to help at the assemblies.

This committee meets with teachers to discuss any educational concerns which may arise.
 
Family Night

Family Night is an evening for Primrose families to get together, socialize, enjoy food, games, & entertainment at the school.  Many volunteers will be needed to help man the events during the night (flyer will be sent home) but volunteers are also needed to chair subcommittees behind the scenes prior to the event.
Fundraising

Students sell gift wrap and other items in this major fall fundraiser. Volunteers are needed to:
distribute brochures to students
-send out reminder notices weekly
-decorate display case
-pick up order forms at school process orders and
 check accuracy
-distribute orders in November

Holiday Happiness is an enormous holiday craft fair with vendors, games, food, children's activities, and an affordable gift room for students to buy gifts for special people. Volunteers needed to help the day of our huge craft fair, as well as volunteers willing to chair subcommittees before the event.
Hospitality

The Hospitality Committee provides refreshments at PTA meetings. Volunteers are needed to purchase refreshments and supplies with PTA funds, set up refreshments before each meeting, & clean up and put away refreshments after meetings (about 20 minutes).

Kindergarten Bus Ride

Incoming kindergarteners practice riding the school bus from Reis Park to Primrose.  Volunteers are needed to help escort the incoming kindergarten students to and from school and to stay in the classrooms while the children visit.
Legislation

The Legislation Chairperson reviews information from state and local PTA offices and reports as necessary to the Primrose PTA membership.
Library

The Chairperson coordinates volunteers.  Volunteers are needed to check in and out books during student library visits and to help with shelving and assisting with projects at the Librarians request.
Membership

The Chairperson manages all membership drive and enrollment activities.  Volunteers are needed to take membership paperwork and dues at the evening meetings in September. Volunteers are also needed on occasion to process member cards and requests for membership flyers.
Mini-Grants

Reviews and gives recommendations on teacher mini grant applications, to fund projects that enhance education.
Parent Programs

This committee provides information and education to parents on subjects based on feedback from parents. Typically there are 2 keynote speakers in the Fall and Spring and other speakers throughout the year. Volunteers are needed to help with registrations, mailings, surveys, flyers, PR, and goings-on behind the scenes to put together the event. No limit to volunteers.

The Publication Center staff works with teachers and students to publish student books.  Volunteers are needed to edit, type, review, bind, and make covers for children’s literary works.

The Primrose Red Ribbon Week Committee is responsible for decorating Primrose on Friday, October 21 and helping to coordinate and support healthy choices activities that take place at the school during the week.
Reflections
 

Please consider Volunteering!

Reflections was developed by the National PTA and is a program that encourages children, parents, teachers, and the community to have an awareness of the arts. This program has enabled students to enjoy the benefits of having their creative talents recognized and their self esteem developed. All grade levels (K - 12) are encouraged to participate in one of four ways: musical composition, literature (including poetry, prose, and drama), visual arts (including drawing, painting, collage, and printmaking), and photography.

The School Board representative attends School Board meetings, takes clear and concise notes, and reports back to the PTA board.
Second Grade

T-Shirts are printed and distributed to the second graders as a “graduation gift” from the PTA. The t-shirts include the names of all 2nd graders and have an original design.
Staff Appreciation Lunch

Chairperson plans, sends out invitations, coordinates and hosts lunch for the entire Primrose staff.
Tasks include:
-coordinating food and gift basket contributions    (sending home flyers and collecting them)
-scheduling volunteers for that day
-purchasing supplies
-set up, serve lunch and clean up
Time commitment: tasks require time for flyer distribution and collection, approximately 2-4 days prior to event for shopping, and your sparkling personality throughout the lunch.
Volunteers that day: Volunteers will be scheduled in approximately 2 ˝ hour shifts. Please note ** children are not allowed at this event,* and Primrose will dismiss at 11:00 that day.

Help is needed the day of the event to set up, replenish and break down the cafeteria.

The chairperson for the Directory is responsible for getting out notices inviting all families to be included in the Student Directory. Once the responses are received they must be entered into a spreadsheet, printed, proofread and copied for distribution. Committee members are needed to assist with all aspects.

This committee organizes the student picture day to ensure the day runs smoothly to help collect money and picture orders from students. Volunteers will also help with the students and photographer. Volunteers are needed on picture day from 8:30am - 2:30pm.
